Healing is painful for a simple reason: it deconstructs everything you know to make you realize that what you once perceived as 'normal' was not normal, but merely familiar. Healing involves gaining the strength to accept and realize that you have been a victim of your traumas and wounds for most of your life. It takes a lot to surrender to the reality that you have been living on top of a broken foundation, and the only way to heal and rebuild is to start over. You will need to break yourself into pieces until you can rebuild yourself; for the first time in this human experience, you will build something solid that can support you peacefully and bring you peace of mind.
It’s going to be a long and complicated process before you start feeling comfort and relief. There will be good days and bad days, and, to be honest, the beginning will have more bad days than good. Facing yourself in silence, instead of trying to escape and distract your mind from reality, is one of the most difficult things to do. Looking at yourself in the mirror and facing the reality that you have been masking or ignoring the terrible pain behind your eyes will make you cry as you have never cried before, but it will also make you breathe and smile for the first time in many years.
I wish you the strength to face your demons, find help, believe in your ability to heal, and learn that you deserve better.
